The Action Comedy Blind Fury Reviewed

They call Rutger Hauer the European Paul Newman for his blue eyes, but the European Christopher Walken might be a little more accurate. Hauer is an actor equally adept at playing both heroes and villains, and brings a touch each to each. So when he plays a hero, there’s an odd, sinister air about it, and when he’s a villain, there’s a strangely likable quality there. Blind Fury is one of the classic action movie downloads for this reason, amongst others.

The story follows Hauer as a Vietnam War veteran who was abandoned overseas by his old war buddy. He wound up being taken in by a South Vietnamese village, where he was taught how to defend himself with a samurai sword, in that he could no longer reasonably operate a firearm. He returns to the United States with sword in hand to find the person who left him behind in Vietnam. Interestingly, he’s not out for revenge, he’s out to forgive his old friend and make things right between the two of them.

Along the way he picks up the man’s son in Miami, Florida, and escorts him to meet his father in Las Vegas, Nevada, who has gotten into some trouble with the local gangsters and hoods. Their quest winds up being surprisingly heart warming and moving, which is nice, considering that it really didn’t need to deliver any more than some action and laughs.

Rutger Hauer is really something in this movie, playing all the action and laughs just right, and, the whole way, convincingly playing a blind man. Besides Hauer, the rest of the cast is pretty great, too. Look out for Randall Tex Cobb as “Slag”, the badguy’s right hand man, who meets a fitting end when he finally gets his come uppance at the end.

The movie is really one of the best of the eighties in terms of action flicks. It really captures what the era was all about. Along the way, there’s also some really good storytelling as the film deals with issues of friendship and abandonment.

Ninja legend Sho Kosugi shows up towards the end for really no reason whatsoever, except to get Sho Kosugi in there. He plays a hired sword who arrives in the US from Japan in order to fight Rutger Hauer just so we can get a great fight scene in there between Hauer and a true legend of Ninja themed action movies.

You’ll probably love the two redneck brothers who are constantly nagging each other and fighting, providing the real comedic drive of the movie. Sort of like throwing Abbot and Costello into the middle of an action flick.

It’s too bad that they just don’t make movies like this anymore. The eighties were a great time for funny, exciting action flicks, and they just don’t make them like this anymore. Still, with movie downloads you can check out any of these movies you like, no matter how rare, and experience them for the first time and really enjoy on the flicks you’ve missed out on.

To burn movies, remember to check the file format as well as the DVD manual for proper instructions. Watch Movie Online iTunes also allows you to buy movie downloads to have on your computer or iPod. Websites that offer online movie watching allow you to search for a particular movie using their search bar.
